Hey guys,

You may have noticed that I have been rather absent from the internet these past few weeks. Well there is a reason....

The other night one of my cats came home and he had been attacked by another animal. This cat is technically a stray that I sort of unofficially adopted a few years ago. He always comes to me when he is sick, hurt or basically wants food. Anyway, he was in a bad state, he had scratches and bite marks to both sides of his face, to his back and to his stomach. We took him to the vets, he was given an antibiotic injection, a long lasting pain killer (and with no other worrying signs) was sent back home with me. He suggests we have him neutered but technically he is not our cat.

I kept him inside for a few days as recommended by the vet. Now before this story goes on, you should know that I technically do not own this cat and have been looking for his owner for the past 3 years. He was not neutered or microchipped.

Anyway, last Wednesday night (after letting him out on Tuesday), the cat returns and he is all scratched up and bleeding again. Problem is, the emergency vet has moved premises and I can't find a new address and phone number and the telephone number for the old one just rings out. So I stay up all night with the cat. He seems ok but won't let me clean him off. He is normally very placid and has never gone for me when I've touched him, but this time when I attempt to clean his wounds he hisses and claws.

First thing we take him back around to the vet, luckily its the same vet who saw him last time so little explanation of the whole stray issues necessary. The vet is very concerned about him, and suggests the neutering again. This isn't technically our cat but the state his is in we decide to have him done. Then we get hit with the fact that they will need to blood test him first, they do this with most cats apparently but because he is a stray its even more important because he could have F.I.V. (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus). Basically if he has F.I.V., and due to the nature of him being a wandering stray who spends 95% of his time outside, we may have to have him put down.

It probably seems silly to get upset about an animal you don't own but I did, and I cried in the vets.

The vet kept him in on the Thursday to do the blood testing, and called me once they had the outcome. Luckily, the cat's blood is completely fine so they neutered him as planned. We picked him up and took him home. He has now also been microchipped and is now saddled with me as his owner.

So at the moment, I'm at home (still off work) and I'm on cat watch as he needs to be kept in until he is fully healed from the surgery.
